OUR MISSION

is to improve the quality of life in Haywood County by uniting community volunteer funding efforts. Last year, more than 18,000 individuals in Haywood County used the services of a United Way member agency.  That is one of every three persons in the county.

Vision

To be an outstanding mobilizer of resources and community-wide partnerships whose mission is to enable people to become self-sufficient; thereby creating a better quality of life for all Haywood Countians.

Goals

  • Develop and build capabilities to grow workplace and non-workplace giving.
  • To increase the effectiveness of communications with member agencies, health and human-service organizations and the public.
  • Foster results-oriented cooperation among member agencies, state and local government, other local human service agencies and other stakeholders in influencing the allocation and distribution of human services funding.
  • Measure and demonstrate impact in all activities undertaken and operate in a manner that is consistent with cost-effective management principles.
  • Partner with other community efforts to develop strategic plans and opportunities for building a stronger, healthier and self-sufficient community.
  • Distribute funds with integrity and in keeping with most vital and emerging community needs.

Campaign

The 2002 Campaign begins on August 27th with the sisth annual Day of Caring.  Read about last year's Day of Caring, a day of work and repair projects all over Haywood County.  

Programs

The United Way of Haywood County has 21 member agencies and 2 affiliates.  Our focus is human care services as outlined in five areas of service.
  • Basic Needs/Emergency - providing food, clothing, shelter and prescriptions.
  • Child/Youth - developmental opportunities for our children.
  • Elderly - enabling our elderly and frail to live independent and full lives
  • Family/Crisis Intervention - providing opportunities for resolution of personal and family crisis
  • Disabled/Special - promoting opportunities and programs for people with disabilities

Other Programs and Volunteer Opportunities

:

Citizens Review Process - the allocation of funds raised in the previous campaign.   This is the in-depth study of agency/program outcomes and funding requests. We welcome new volunteers who would like to help with the funding decision.  Please contact us @ 828-452-2005 or uwohc@primeline.com

Leadership Giving Program - was founded to involve and deepen the understanding commitment and support of community leaders and concerned individuals through a generous level of giving.  We currently have 191 members whose annual gifts range from $500 to $10,000.
